Writing Basics

Writing BasicsBy Trina L.C. Schiller Even though the Internet gives us the ability to share audio and video files, flash presentations and other forms of multimedia, the main form of communication on the web is text. Our web pages are based on it, e-mail is totally dependent upon it; we use it in forums and chat rooms, and search engines spider it, ranking our pages accordingly.Text is extremely important for communication purposes online, as our words represent not only what we're promoting, but who we are. Text written well conveys a message of professionalism. Poorly written text distracts readers from the message and draws their attention to the lack of professionalism in the writing.

That is to say, that even if you have the best product in the world, if your text lacks a professional appearance, you are not going to be taken seriously by the reader, and you'll be less likely to close a sale. (Surely a true professional would write better than a third grade student, or at least have the presence of forethought to hire someone else to do it for them.)Here are some very basic writing tips to help keep your text from looking ametuer: Always use your spell checker. There is no excuse for misspelled words. Use proper capitalization and punctuation. Space your text correctly.

Always add a space after punctuation marks. Do not let everything run together. Without proper spacing, your reader will have a hard time decoding what you've written, and will most likely stop reading. Besides, it looks sloppy. Proof read and edit.

It is best to have someone else do your proof reading for you, as it is often difficult to see your own mistakes. Avoid run-on sentances and sentance fragments. Remember, a sentance must include a subject (noun) and a verb. Double check for double negatives. (Ain't got no...

vs Don't have any...) No writer is perfect, and everyone needs to proof read and edit. Even the biggest gurus have mistakes like these in their text. However, keeping mistakes to a minimum is very important to your professional image. And looking silly over misspelled words and improper use of punctuation can easily be avoided. Slow down and don't be in such a rush to get to press. This doesn't only apply to web page copy, but to e-mail, forum and chat communications too.

You may have a professional looking web site, perhaps created by the company you promote, so don't let your e-mail and other posts give you away. Copyright ? 2005The Trii-Zine Ezinewww.ezines1.com.

Credit Cards and Home Equity Loans ? Read the Fine Print

These days, everyone's lives are burdened with paperwork. With newspapers, magazines, bills, junk mail, and who-knows-what taking up space in their day, few people have time to look at every piece of paper that comes their way. Unfortunately, it's becoming more and more necessary to carefully examine bills and contracts, as various penalties are finding their way into the fine print of credit card bills, home equity loan and mortgage contracts. It truly pays to take the time to read the fine print in these documents.Up to one third of major credit card issuers now include a "universal default clause" in their credit card terms. The UDC allows the credit card company to raise the interest rate on the account if the cardholder pays his or her bills late.

This can apply even if the credit card bill is paid on time! It is important to find out if your credit card terms include a UDC, as your interest rate could be affected by whether or not you pay your telephone bill on time....
